A group atmosphere is created which allows children to grow responsibly with peers and as a member of a wider musical family. Fifty years later, their eldest daughter, Polly, has carried on the legacy of the van der Linde family by opening her home in the summer to young pianists, ranging from the age of 7 to 16. Summer Sonatina is an international piano camp for students (ages 7-16) held in a large historic mansion. The first Summer Sonatina camps were held in the 12-room van der Linde home in North Bennington, Vermont. Summer Sonatina began when they decided to create a camp of their own. The camps encourage students to become dedicated, serious musicians who develop resourcefulness, thoughtfulness and self discipline through an emphasis on all aspects of music and lasting personal relationships with fellow musicians. Musical progress proceeds according to each student's ability. BENNINGTON Summer Sonatina International Piano Camp, located in Old Bennington, was founded in 1969 by Rosamond and Rein van der Linde for their children. In 1969, Rosamond and Rein van der Linde 1929-1996 searched for a summer piano camp for their children but could not find one. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, call ahead to verify hours, and remember to practice social distancing.
